Duluth Lawmaker Considering Secretary of State Seat

June 4, 2013 Updated Jun 4, 2013 at 4:38 PM CST

Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) - State Senator Roger Reinert (DFL-Duluth) said Tuesday he may be interested in throwing his hat in the ring for the Secretary of State seat.

Mark Ritchie announced Tuesday he would not seek re-election in 2014.

Sen. Reinert said his experience as a legislator, Civics teacher at UMD and his creation of the bi-partisan Purple Caucus this legislative session, would help set him apart from other candidates.

The other potential candidates who've expressed interest are from the Twin Cities area, something Sen. Reinert said would also help make him stand out as a viable candidate.

No word on if or when Sen. Reinert will officially announce a run for the seat.
