Former MN House Speaker Throws His Hat into the Ring for Governor

St. Paul, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Former Minnesota House Speaker Kurt Zellers has announced his candidacy for Governor of Minnesota.

"I'm running to be governor not just for the sake that Mark Dayton has taken us in the wrong direction but because of what we're based on and what our country was built on and where we've gone away from," Zellers said at a news conference Sunday announcing his candidacy.

Zellers says his goal is to not ask for Minnesotans to pay more in taxes, make sure the Capitol spends tax payer money more wisely and to "unleash job growth" in Minnesota.

Zellers isn't the first Republican to announce his bid for Governor.

Orono businessman Scott Honour and Hennepin County Commissioner Jeff Johnson have also thrown their hats in to the race.
