MN House Approves 'Ban the Box' Legislation

May 8, 2013 Updated May 8, 2013 at 3:19 PM CST

St. Paul, MN (NNCNOW.com) - A measure that would make it illegal for employers in Minnesota to ask about criminal history on employment applications got approval from the House Wednesday afternoon.

Authors of the legislation, dubbed "Ban the Box," call it a chance for redemption.

Lawmakers supporting the measure say having a job candidate forced to let prospective employers know about past criminal convictions upfront could potentially land their job application in the trash without any further discussion.

The House approved the bill 107 to 26.

The Senate approved the bill last month.
