March 21, 2013 Updated Mar 21, 2013 at 8:24 PM CDT

St. Paul, MN (NNCNOW.com) - A modified gun bill featuring background checks for purchases at gun shows is now on its way to the House floor for a full vote.

The House Public Safety Finance and Policy Committee OKed the bill in a 10 to 8 vote.

The bill includes an amendment for people attending gun shows who purchase from private sellers rather than licensed dealers.

Republicans on the committee say they oppose the provision and vowed to fight against it on the House floor.
