DULUTH, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) The Nolan for Congress campaign wants voters to know that District 8 DFL candidate Rick Nolan does support mining.
Campaign spokespeople responded today to what they call "false attacks" launched by Republican special interest groups.
Former District 8 candidate Jeff Anderson said Nolan supports the Twin Metals and Polymet projects and understands the challenges they face.
Back in 2010, many voters on the Iron Range helped to elect incumbent Republican Congressman Chip Cravaack over the longstanding DFL Congressman Jim Oberstar.
This election year, Nolan's campaign manager says they're doing a lot of work on Range.
"We're running a very strong grassroots campaign in every part of the district. The Iron Range is no different. We have you know, voter contact going on in significant ways. We have volunteers out there knocking on doors. Rick has been traveling up there and meeting with folks," said campaign manager Michael Misterek.
The campaign manager says he feels confident Nolan has a lot of support on the Range and much of the work is to make sure people get out to vote.
Over the weekend, Minneapolis CBS affiliate WCCO pulled an ad by the House Majority PAC attacking Republican Congressman Chip Cravaack.
