(NNCNOW.com)-- State Senator Julianne Ortman announced her intention to challenge United States Senator Al Franken for his Senate seat.
Ortman kicked off her campaign Saturday morning in Carver County.
According to her campaign website, she was first elected to the Minnesota senate in 2002 and was re-elected in 2006, 2010 and 2012.
She was also the first woman in Minnesota history to serve as the Chair of the Senate Tax Committee and she was the Deputy Majority Leader in 2012.
Ortman is the third Repulican to challenge Franken. He is seeking a second term for the US Senate.
