Baldwin Defeats Thompson for Wisconsin Senate Seat

Duluth, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) --- Democratic U.S. Representative Tammy Baldwin has been declared the winner of Wisconsin’s open U.S. Senate seat.

Baldwin narrowly defeated former Wisconsin Governor Tommy Thompson in a close race of 1,528,143 votes to Thompson’s 1,363,317.

Baldwin has made history by becoming Wisconsin’s first female senator and the first openly gay senator to serve in the U.S. Senate.

The senate seat in Wisconsin has been held by democrats since 1957.
