Madison, WI (Northland's NewsCenter) - With 58% of the vote, Tom Barrett, the Mayor of Milwaukee, is declared the project winner of the Democratic Wisconsin recall Primary.

According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, all precincts have reported in.

Incumbent Republican Governor Scott Walker took the win in the GOP primary race over his one contender, Arthur Kohl-Riggs, with 97% of the vote.

The Walker campaign responded to Barrett's win in this e-mail to news stations.

“As Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett enters the general election in his soon to be third statewide losing campaign, he will surely find that his record of raising taxes and promises to continue to do so will not resonate with voters. While Governor Walker’s term has seen unemployment drop to its lowest rate since 2008, unemployment under Tom Barrett has risen more than 28%. Rather than Tom Barrett’s path of taking Wisconsin back to the days of billion-dollar deficits, double-digit tax increases and record job loss, we are confident that voters will choose to stand with Governor Walker and move Wisconsin forward.”

Following is the statement of Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Mike Tate following Tom Barrett's selection as the Democratic nominee to face Scott Walker June 5th.

"Tom Barrett offers Wisconsin a new start. A new start to focus on jobs, instead of special interest giveaways. A new start to grow our middle class, instead of shrinking it. A new start to fix our structural deficit, instead of blowing it apart to give tax breaks to out-of-state corporations. A new start to lower taxes, instead of raising them on working families. A new start to offer clean government, instead of a pay-to-play culture of criminal corruption. A new start to repair our world-class university and education systems, instead of tearing them to pieces. A new start to practice a politics of unity and inclusion, instead of a scorched earth attitude of destruction."
