15 Year Old Killed in Train Accident

Aurora, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) --- A 15 year old boy died early this morning after he was hit by a train on his way to school.

Authorities were called to the railroad tracks around 7:30 a.m. about 300 yards east of Main Street to a train accident involving a young man.

An initial investigation found that 15-year-old Cole Anthony Packa was trying to cross the rail tracks at an undesignated area. Packa was struck by a west bound train while he was crossing the tracks on his way to school at Mesabi East High School.

Packa died at the scene of the accident.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation by the St Louis County Sheriff's office.

Aurora Fire Responders, Aurora Fire Department, Hoyt Lakes Ambulance, Palo Fire Responders, Hoyt Lakes Police Department, Gilbert Police Department, MN State Patrol, and the St. Louis County Sheriff's Department all responded to the scene of the accident.
