Duluth, MN (Northlands NewsCenter)
-- Carlton County Attorney Thomas Pertler has entered a guilty plea to a gross misdemeanor after a drinking and driving incident earlier this year.
The most serious charge of DWI, Refusal to Submit to a Chemical Test was accepted by Judge Heather Sweetland. The lesser charges were dismissed.
According to the City Attorney's office, Judge Sweetland sentenced Perlter to one year in the St. Louis County Jail. The jail time is stayed, and replaced with two years of supervised probation.
The conditions of Pertler's probation included no same or similar crimes, random alcohol tests, and the release of his treatment results. A fine of nearly 1,000 dollars was also issued.
Pertler was pulled over in July by a state trooper, where, according to a criminal complaint a nearly empty bottle of vodka was found, along with an intoxicated Perlter.
The Carlton County Attorney entered Hazelden treatment center shortly after the incident.
