Cliffs Resources Inc. has reached a tentative agreement with United Steelworkers on a new labor contract for both Minnesota and Michigan mining operations.
The agreement consists of a new three-year labor contract offer that would cover almost 2,400 USW workers at its United Taconite and Hibbing Taconite mines, as well as Cliffs' Empire and Tilden mines in Michigan.
David Blake, the Senior Vice President for North American Iron Ore says, "We are pleased to reach a new tentative labor contract that is fair and equitable to both parties, and provides Cliffs a competition cost structure for future success. Cliff's most valuable resource is our employees, and we look forward to continuing our strong partnership."
The agreement is pending ratifications by USW local union memberships.
