Duluth, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) Recovery efforts continue Wednesday for 13 year old Jefferson Bowen, Junior of Duluth, after he was swept away in high waters at a popular swimming spot in Duluth Tuesday.

The Lake County rescue squad and a Coast Guard helicopter have been called in to assist the St. Louis County Sheriff’s rescue squad and Duluth Police in the search.

Authorities were called to an area on Amity Creek known as “The Deeps”, around four Tuesday afternoon, on a report that a 13 year old boy had been swept away into the rain swollen Lester river.

A passerby reported seeing what she believed to be a person being swept downstream in the Lester River but after searching the river to its mouth at Lake Superior searchers returned to the Deeps where they felt the body had probably been trapped beneath the water.

Wednesday the search has been expanded into the Lester River and Lake Superior.
