Duluth, MN (Northland’s NewsCenter) --- Erik Simonson has received the DFL Party endorsement for the Minnesota House District 7B seat.
About 70 delegates attended a conference at Denfeld High School Saturday to vote on who receives the party’s endorsement.
Assistant Duluth Fire Chief Simonson secured the party endorsement by a 33-21 vote.
Simonson told the Northland’s NewsCenter he will spend the weekend door knocking in his district and informing people how to properly vote for a write-in candidate.
Simonson launched his campaign for the seat after Representative Kerry Gauthier’s campaign was derailed by news that he had engaged in a sexual act with a minor at a rest stop in Duluth.
Rep. Gautheir announced he would not run for re-election, but his name will remain on the ballot in November.
Other candidates in the race include Republican endorsed candidate Travis Silvers and Duluth City Councilor Jay Fosle, a declared write-in candidate.
