(Northland's NewsCenter) --- Four Northland seniors were among the top 10 finalists announced Thursday for the 2012 Mr. Hockey Award, given annually to the top senior boy's hockey player in the state of Minnesota.
Duluth East seniors Jake Randolph and Dom Toninato join Duluth Marshall senior Judd Peterson and Hermantown senior Jared Thomas as the players with Northland ties on the list.
Peterson, who has committed to play college hockey at St. Cloud State, leads the group of four Northlanders with 63 points this season. That places him sixth amongst all Minnesota skaters, and his 34 goals ranks seventh.
Thomas, who plays for the state's only undefeated team in Hermantown and has committed to play at UMD, comes in at seventh overall with 62 points this season. That number includes 39 assists, which ranks second amongst all Minnesota skaters this year.
Randolph, who committed earlier this winter to play college hockey at Nebraska-Omaha, checks in just behind those two at eighth in overall points. He has 30 goals and 30 assists this season for the (22-1) Greyhounds.
Toninato, who plays on a line with Randolph and has also committed to play college hockey at UMD, is not ranked inside the top 10 in any major scoring category. He has 24 goals and 29 assists for the Greyhounds this season.
The last player from the Northland to win the Mr. Hockey award was Greenway's Gino Guyer in 2002.
