George Zimmerman to be Charged in Trayvon Martin Case

April 11, 2012 Updated Apr 11, 2012 at 2:16 PM CDT

Jacksonville, Florida (Northland's NewsCenter) --- New information along with charges against George Zimmerman are expected to be announced this evening at a news conference at the State Attorney's Office in Jacksonville, Florida.

State Attorney Angela Corey is expected to charge Zimmerman in connection with the Trayvon Martin shooting case, however it is unclear what charges will be sought against him.

The announcement is expected to come around 5pm Central Time.

Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch volunteer, says he shot Martin, 17, back on February 26th. Zimmerman says he shot the teen in self defense. Police decided at the time not to arrest Zimmerman or press charges.

The lack of an arrest or charges sparked protests nationwide, with some critics saying that Zimmerman shot Trayvon because of his race.

Zimmerman's attorneys say they have lost touch with their client.

We will keep you up to date as more information is released.
