Duluth, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) --- Duluth native Kara Goucher made her homecoming something to remember, setting a course record while finishing first in the 2012 USA Half Marathon Championships.
Goucher finished the 13.1-mile course in a time of 1:09:46, beating out previous record-holder Colleen De Reuck by just 14 seconds.
De Reuck had held the record since 2003, the last time the USA Half Marathon Championships were held in Duluth.
This race marked a homecoming of sorts for Goucher, who had not run a race in her hometown since graduating from Duluth East in 1996.
Goucher will be making her second appearance in the Olympics this August, having qualified for the United States in the full marathon.
She previously ran in the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics, competing in both the 5,000-meters and the 10,000-meters.
