St. Paul, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) --- Governor Mark Dayton is requesting the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) declare three Northern Minnesota counties disaster areas after FEMA denied federal aid to flood stricken areas.

Governor Dayton has requested a disaster declaration for Carlton, Pine, and St. Louis Counties as well as the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa after flooding in June devastated cities and communities across the Northland.

According to Gov. Dayton's letter, he states that at least 25 homes and businesses have sustained uninsured losses of 40% or more of the estimated fair replacement value or pre-disaster fair market value of the damaged property.

If the SBA accepts Gov. Dayton's disaster request, individual homeowners and businesses in St. Louis, Carlton and Pine Counties and the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa will be able to apply for loans from the SBA to fix their flood damaged properties.
