St. Paul, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Governor Mark Dayton has signed an Emergency Executive Order in response to winter storm conditions in Southern Minnesota.
Dayton ordered that Minnesota National Guard be called in to provide assistance and emergency relief services.
The emergency order is effective immediately and will remain in effect until the emergency is over.
The winter storm caused widespread power outages and significant debris issues in southern Minnesota.
Freezing rain, sleet, ice, strong winds and heavy snows have resulted in hundreds of downed power pols and trees and are causing dangerous travel conditions.
Dayton said the resources of the local and county governments are inadequate to meet the demands generated by the conditions.
The storm is expected to worsen tonight, overnight and thruoghout the day on Thursday.
The town of Worthington, Minnesota is completely without power and there has been disruptions to 9-1-1 service in southern Minnesota.
