Duluth, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) - There were significant differences between the house and senate versions of the legislation. But Monday night the senate passed the final version worked out in conference committee.

The bill will make sales of synthetic drugs a felony. It also puts synthetic marijuana on the government's list of Schedule 1 drugs.

The bill would also allow pharmaceutical companies to categorize which chemicals, or variations of, would considered a synthetic drug.

Anyone who possesses any amount of a synthetic cannabinoid will be guilty of a misdemeanor.

Duluth officials have referred to the city as 'ground zero' in the statewide fight against synthetic marijuana.

According to Senator Roger Reinert his bill will tighten enforcement and enhance prosecution of the sale and use of synthetic drugs in Duluth.
