Duluth, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) -- Duluth Mayor Don Ness is set to present the 2013 Proposed Property Tax Levy and General Fund Budget to the Duluth City Council Monday night.

The City Council will approve a maximum tax levy on September 10 followed by budget presentations from each City department in the upcoming months.

The City Council will vote on and certify the final 2013 tax levy and budget in December.

Highlights of the presentation will include; the 2013 Budget recommends a 1.6% levy increase, the lowest recommended levy since 2000.

The 2013 Budget expenditures of $73.7 million are $1 million dollars less than the 2012 budget. This was accomplished in spite of a $1.7 million increase in health insurance costs.

The 2013 Proposed General Fund Budget represents the fifth consecutive year of decreases in general fund expenditures.

Additional details of the proposed budget will be available at the presentation as well as the City of Duluth's website on Tuesday.
