Update: One Person in Critical Condition After Car Crash

Deer River, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) --- One person is listed in critical condition tonight following a car crash earlier this morning near Deer River, MN.

The driver of the vehicle, Vernon Kingbird, 21, of Deer River, MN suffered non-life threatening injuries. The passenger Isaac Red Day, 23, of Squaw Lake, MN is listed in critical condition. Both men were taken to St. Mary's Hospital in Duluth.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Kingbird was driving a 2006 Chevy Cavalier northbound on Highway 46, just south of County Road 39 when his car spun out. The vehicle crossed the southbound lane of traffic and then drove into the ditch.

One of the passengers had to extricated from the car, however no details on which victim it was.

The car has been deemed a total loss.

Deer River Police Department and the Itasca County Sheriff's Department responded to the scene.
