Sawyer County, WI (Northland's NewsCenter) -- The Sawyer County Sheriff's office is deeming six weekend fires as an act of arson.
On Saturday, July 14, the sheriff's office received an annoymous phone call referencing a large fire across the Lac Courte Orielles IGA store in the Town of Bass Lake.
Lac Courte Orielles, Bass Lake and the Town of Hayward Fire Departments responded to the scene along with Sawyer County Deputies and LCO police officers.
When officials arrived to the scene, they observed two fire scenes behind the Trading Post on County Highway K.
The fires were then extinguished. The siding on the east side of the Trading Post building received severe damage.
There was also severe damage to a storage type structure including the contents inside, including a van.
A half hour later on Saturday, the office recieved another complaint referencing a log cabin on fire next to the LCO Head Start building.
The Town of Hayward, Round Lake and LCO Fire Departments responded along wtih local law enforcement.
The log cabin fire turned out to be the Ceremonial Lodge on Trepania Road.
The building was engulfed with flames when officials arrived.
The building was deemed a total loss.
On Sunday, July 15, Sawyer County dispatch received a third fire complaint from a caller on County Highway E of Bass Lake. The caller said his lodge had been burned down during the evening on July 15.
There were three other fires that were reported on July 15.
Their locations were the LCO Honor the Earth Pow Wow Grounds, a private sweat lodge on County Highway K in the town of Bass Lake and a ceremonial ring off of Potato Road in the Town of Sand Lake.
A person of interest was arrested by the Sheriff's office and the LCO Police Department.
All six of the fires are believed to be criminal in nature and are being investigated by the State of Wisconsin, LCO Police Department and the Sawyer County Sheriff's Office.
