Ashland, WI (Northland's NewsCenter) --- The Ashland Police Department is investigating a "suspicious death" at Anderson's Chequamegon Motel.
Police released the following information, a press conference is expected:
On Nov. 2nd, at approximately 8:00 p.m., Ashland Police Department was requested to conduct a welfare check on an individual staying at the Anderson Motel located in the City of Ashland. This person was not a local individual.
Officers responded to the room in which the male was supposed to be staying in. After attempting to get someone to answer the door, officers became concerned as there were reports that foul play might have taken place.
Officers then gained entry to the motel room and located a deceased male approximately 36 years old. Initial observations indicate the cause of death was from a gunshot wound.
The scene was secured and the Wisconsin Crime Lab was notified and will be processing the scene. We are also collaborating with the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and other law enforcement agencies and a suspect has been taken into custody in the State of South Dakota. The person taken into custody is not a local person.
When the male is identified, next of kin will be notified and the name will be released.
When additional information is received, we will announce a time for a Press Conference.
