. Grandma's Marathon has more than 1,000 volunteer positions available for 2008. Volunteer positions include areas such as traffic and spectator control, water station assistance, medical services, racecourse entertainment, race packet pick-up and finish area activities. Service organizations, large groups and individuals are all welcome and encouraged to participate. Each volunteer receives an official 2008 volunteer T-shirt, refreshment tickets and an invitation to the Grandma's Marathon Volunteer Party on Sunday, June 29.

. Yet another Duluth School District’s Long Range Facilities Red Plan group has hatched. MoveForwardDuluth, a group established to support the controversial plan, will introduce itself at a Tuesday press event. Read more.

. Representatives from Federal Warning Sirens will be in Duluth today and Wednesday to perform test soundings of warning sirens. As was the case last month, test sirens will sound at selected locations around the city to determine sound coverage and appropriate volume levels to provide appropriate emergency warning. Citizens are asked not to take undue alarm at these test soundings. In the event of an actual emergency, emergency authorities will issue appropriate instructions per standard procedure.

. The Animal Allies Humane Society of Duluth has launched a first-ever, $3.9 million capital campaign to build a new state-of-the-art animal adoption facility for Duluth's homeless animals. Read more.

In order to insure success, the group has hired local burger magnate and night club owner Nick G. Patronas to perform his magic at the new locale. Yum, yum: Patronas will be bringing back, by popular demand, his world-famous Charburger. He will also be emulating Duluth's hottest night club, Ace's on First, which has taken the area by storm.
