Virginia Woman Makes it Big with Meatball Baker

By KBJR News 1

Jean Rindfuss loves to cook... but when it came to making meatballs they just never came out quite right.

"They would not turn out round or every time I went to flip them they would fall apart and then they would have hot spots," says Jean.

"She'd try to flip them and they'd fall apart and she would just go nuts. It really frustrated her a lot," says Jean's husband Don.

This frustration sparked innovation.

Jean went to work and created what she called the Meatball Maker.

"I just came up with the idea why not put them in a type of a broiler pan and let the grease drain through there and then they would be round," says Jean.

From conception to production the process took more than two years.

But when Jean got the phone call saying her product would be on QVC it made it all worth it.

"She says your product is going to be presented on QVC and I say you're kidding and she says nope and I said oh my gosh I just couldn't believe it," says Jean.

When the Meatball Maker debuted at the Chicago Expo on QVC it was a huge hit.

"At the show they had 72-hundred pans and they sold within 20 minutes. So that made us really happy," says Jean.

Jean doesn't have any more invention plans for the future... but she gets plenty of use out of her Meatball Maker, which her husband doesn't mind one bit.

"Have I used it... well I've eaten everything out of it," says Don.
