Company Helps Runners Avoid Injuries

By KBJR News 1

Grandmas Marathon runners are firing up for the big day this Saturday.
Besides finishing in a timely fashion, another important goal is avoiding injury.

In this week's "Invest in the Northland" Laura Langemo tells us about a company that helps accomplish that feat by starting with "the feet".

Shoes have been flying off the shelves at the Duluth Running Company.
Most runners know what you wear on your feet can make or break your Grandmas Marathon experience.

"Being in the wrong type of shoe can cause a number of different issues knee pain, shin splints, IT band problems."

The Duluth Running Company provides an interesting process to ensure runners get the right shoe.

They do a video analysis of a runner's feet and gait.

"We look at your feet and then we look at you walk and get an idea of your foot mechanics and then we video your foot mechanics running to make sure you are in the right type of shoe."

Owners Clint Agar and Andrea Johnson also host a variety of activities to get people in the community moving.

"We do the Thanksgiving 5K which is the Gobble Gallop, we've done an 8K on the bay, we do a triathlon camp in the winter time we do a whole array of events."

Clint and Andrea say they hope to continue sharing their passion of running with others for years to come.

"As soon as you get hooked there is nothing like running to give you that serenity that comes with it."

Clint and Andrea also just opened a women's fashion store called Andi's Closet in the Fitgers complex.
