The Northland's Breakfast Hot Spot

By KBJR News 1

Penny Briddell started her career in the restaurant business years ago.

After learning the ins and outs of the industry as a general manager... she decided to open her own restaurant.

"I decided that if I can do this for someone else, I would like to try and do this by myself and that was 15 years ago and I'm still here," says Penny.

But when Penny launched Uncle Loui's Café in Duluth... which was named for a family member... she was a little overwhelmed with the enormous task of running her own business.

"The first three years were really tough. But as we grew we learned how to do things, to make it easier on us and the people came," says Penny.

With time, Uncle Loui's became a breakfast hot spot.

"It's nice to have a go to place for breakfast where you can go and always know that it will be good," says customer Abram Anders.

"Normally you can't clean your plate. I don't care how big of an eater you are," says customer Scott Dunbar.

"The service is excellent and the atmosphere is excellent. It's an all around nice place to stop," says customer Jerry Ballind.

It's these friendly faces that keep bringing Penny back to work every day.

"We just love coming to work, being together, and all of our customers we know by name. It's all a big family here," says Penny.

Uncle Louis Café is open Monday through Friday 6:00am until 2:45pm and Saturday and Sunday 7:00am until 2:45pm.
