Your Green Life: "Wood is Good"

By KBJR News 1

Last year, long lists of toy recalls topped headlines across the country leaving many parents angry and scared.

To put some minds at ease, eco-friendly toy options are populating store shelves as meteorologist Shannon Murphy shows us in, "Your Green Life."

"Wood is good." That's the motto for preschool teacher Rhett Rhomsaas when looking for green toys. "Wood obviously lasts a lot longer and can be handed down to the next generation."

He also works at "The Green Goober" toy store.

"We are a toy store that is eco-friendly and eco-minded and we use reclaimed wood and recycled plastics," explained Rhomsaas.

That means safe and long-lasting toys and no more scares for parents about toy recalls, lead paint, small pieces, and plastics packed with poisonous chemicals.

Since children eat more, drink more, and breathe more than adults on a pound for pound basis, it makes them extremely vulnerable to environmental hazards.

"Not just with toys, but in everything that they consume. They should be watchful and mindful of what their kids are playing with and eating," furthered Rhomsaas.

Your little ones can have fun with toys that are great for the environment.

The Green Mercantile in Duluth carries toys that are made from wood using non-toxic finishes, organic cotton, or hemp, eliminating the toxic risk from buying plastic toys.
