400 DWI Arrests on St. Patrick's Day Weekend

Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- A record number of people were arrested for DWI in Minnesota during the St. Patrick's Day weekend.

The Minnesota Department of Public Safety Office of Traffic Safety reports approximately 400 DWI arrests on March 16 and 17.

The arrests net the largest amount of drivers arrested for DWI on St Patrick's Day Weekend in the last five years in Minnesota.

In 2008, 165 people were arrested. In 2009, the number jumped to 218. In 2010, 225 people were arrested .In 2011, 287 were arrested and in 2012, 346 people were arrested.

The Minnesota State Patrol reported one fatality on Sunday, and it is unknown at this time if alcohol was a factor.

A DWI offense can result in loss of license for up to a year, thousands in costs and possible jail time.
