Babbitt, MN (NNCNOW.com)-- Babbitt's former Fire Chief is being investigated by government agencies outside the city, following his resignation.

The Mayor of Babbitt Glen Anderson and the St. Louis County Sheriff's Department have confirmed there is an investigation underway but, at this point, they say they will not comment on the details of investigation into the former fire chief.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and the US Attorney's Office would not comment either, and would neither confirm, nor deny the existence of an active investigation.

The US Forest Service had no comment, and referred us to the US Attorney's office.

Ryan Scharber, was the active Babbitt fire Chief until he resigned in December.

Members of fire departments close to Babbitt say Scharber is a nice guy, with a good reputation in fire fighting circles.

The Mayor said, however, there have been allegations against Scharber, the nature of which he wouldn't disclose.

Also, the police chief of Babbitt says there was a complaint against Scharber prior to his resignation, but he wouldn't go into details because he said Sharber is no longer a city employee.

Several calls to Scharber's home, and a message written do him on Facebook were not returned.
