Bail Set for Corrections Officer Accused of Alleged Sexual Misconduct with Inmate

Grand Rapids, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- An Itasca County judge has set bail for a Minnesota Corrections Officer accused of allegedly engaging in sexual misconduct with a female inmate over the last two months.

During 56 year old James Allen Bongaarts' court appearance today, the judge set his bail at $50,000 without conditions or $25,000 with the following conditions: keep court appearances, keep in contact with attorney, remain law abiding and restrain from the Minnesota Correctional Facility in Togo, MN.

According to the criminal complaint, Bongaarts is charged with two counts of felony crime 3rd Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct, four counts of 3rd Degree Attempted Criminal Sexual Conduct, and one count of 4th Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct.

These charges stem from allegations that Bongaarts had sex or tried having sex with a female inmate seven times over the last two months at the Minnesota Correctional Facility in Togo.

Bongaarts' next court appearance is scheduled for January 14th.
