Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- A portion of Becks Road in West Duluth will be closed this week as WLSSD continues a large project to repair areas damaged by the 2012 floods.

Becks Road between Commonwealth Ave. and 108th Ave. West will be closed Friday, October 18th. Detour signage will be posted to route traffic along Gary Street for the one-day closure.

During the closure, WLSSD contractors will be removing a temporary pipeline placed under Becks Road in June 2013 to ensure uninterrupted sewer service during the repair projects.

Non-local traffic is advised to seek alternate routes. All travelers in the area are advised to use caution, slow down and obey signage in the construction area.

WLSSD is repairing and rehabilitating 1.01-miles of its Scanlon Interceptor. Two areas of the Scanlon Interceptor were significantly damaged in the June 2012 floods and must be repaired to ensure the reliability of this major pipeline.

One of the project areas near the Duluth Zoo has already been completed. The remaining flood-related repairs will be completed by the end of 2013, however, construction activity is expected to continue through mid-2014. Minimal short-term detours and road closures are expected as a result of the continuing project.
