Superior, WI (NNCNOW.com) -- UWS students, staff and alumni are mourning the loss of a much beloved Professor and mentor.
John Munsell passed away Tuesday after a brief battle with cancer.
Munsell began his teaching career in the UWS Fine and Applied Arts department in 1967.
He taught courses in communication, speech and television, but is most remembered for his dedication to the University's Theater department, directing more than 60 stage productions and teaching more than 30 theater courses.
Munsell also performed in more than 200 stage and television productions.
He was known as an inspirational professor, who took a personal interest in the development and well–being of his students.
Last year he was presented with the James Rainaldo Mentor Award.
Munsell retired from the University in 2001, with the honors of an emeritus faculty member.
Munsell is survived by his wife Suzie Bednar-Munsell of Solon Springs, his daughter Jeannine (Marty) Wiitala, of Lakeville, MInnesota and two grandchildren Emily and John.
A visitation service will be held at the Manion Theater on Thursday February 21st at Noon, with a celebration of life ceremony to follow at 1pm.
