Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- After moving to a new home in December, Berlin the Polar Bear is now on exhibit at the Kansas City Zoo.
Berlin, originally part of Duluth's Lake Superior Zoo, is on loan to the Kansas City Zoo in hopes that she will breed with Nikita the polar bear and produce offspring.
Being placed on exhibit is the second step in the introduction process between Berlin and Nikita.
Berlin can be viewed on the Nikita Polar Bear Cam at the Kansas City Zoo's website. She can be seen exploring her new exhibit and swimming in the pool.
Berlin was re-located to the Como zoo following a devastating June flood at the Lake Superior Zoo and recently transferred to Kansas City.
“It’s an exciting day!" says Director of Zoo Operations Peter Pruett. "It’s exciting to see her happy, healthy and exploring! She’s owning the exhibit, which is what I expected. We absolutely can’t wait until she gets introduced to Nikita!”
Pruett says that the introduction process will take time and that Berlin needs to become comfortable with the exhibit. Zoo officials say they are not sure how long the introduction process will take.
