Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Now that you know which streets to avoid and how to maneuver your way through traffic during this busy Grandma's Marathon weekend, we’d like to tell you about some of the best places to watch the races.
There will be some bleachers set up along Canal Park Dr. but some of that seating requires a pass.
Grandma's Marathon officials recommend good viewing anywhere on Superior St. from 12th Ave. E to 5th Ave. W, by the Rose garden, by the William Irvin ship, on Lemon Drop Hill, along the North Shore and along London Rd.
Even though you cannot park on London Rd., you can park on the streets above London Rd. You cannot park on Superior St., but you can park on the streets above or in the parking ramps above Superior St.
All of these downtown Duluth parking ramps will be available for parking:
1st Street at Lake Avenue
1st Street at 1st Avenue West
1st Street at 2nd Avenue West
1st Street at 3rd Avenue East
2nd Street at 4th Avenue West
Michigan Street at 6th Avenue West
They don't encourage people to watch the race in areas within the first eighteen miles, because it's extremely difficult to get to the scenic highway.
However, if you do decide to watch the marathon on the scenic highway (Highway 61), you could watch from the few access roads (Knife River, Homestead Rd., Ryan Rd., McQuade Rd. and Lakewood Rd.) that connect the expressway to Highway 61.
Be sure to keep in mind that there is no parking at the start of the half marathon or at the marathon.
