Cook County Investigation Handed Off to Former US Attorney

April 5, 2013 Updated Apr 5, 2013 at 6:44 PM CDT

(NNCNOW.com)-- An investigation at the request of the Cook County Sheriff's Department has been turned over to an appointed special prosecutor.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension has hired former US Attorney Thomas Heffelfinger to review an investigation for possible prosecution, acting in place of County Attorney Tim Scannell.

Neither Heffelfinger, nor the Minnesota BCA would confirm the nature of the investigation. Our requests for comment from the Cook County Attorney's Office and the Sheriff's Department were not successful.
