Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) - A report from the National Transportation Safety Board details probable cause in a 2010 train collision north of Two Harbors.
The report places responsibility for the accident with the crew of the southbound Canadian National Railway Company freight train for their error in departing before the northbound train had passed.
Other factors in the NTSB report include crew fatigue, use of cell phones by crew members on both trains, and poor coordination.
A total of three locomotives and 14 rail cars derailed, injuring five crew members.
Total damages were estimated at $8.1 million.
