Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.COM) - The Duluth Transit Authority is hoping to stress just how important public transportation and the funding that backs it is to the community.

They held a showcase event at UMD Saturday for that reason. They paired with the Minnesota Public Transit Association to discuss the need to increase transit funding.

In particular, the groups talked about the U–Pass program the DTA offers to UMD students.

Officials say that if funding doesn't increase, transportation revenues will decline.

"Then the campus and DTA would have to start to look at whether they needed to reduce services, increase fares or raise more money locally," said Sherry Munyon of the Minnesota Public Transit Association.

This was one of several transit events that will be held throughout the state.
