Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- A Duluth man has been arrested in connection with a heroin raid along the 3900 block of West 5th Street.
On Thursday, Duluth Police officers and investigators with the Lake Superior Drug & Violent Crime Task Force were conducting a pre-warrant surveillance of the residence when the subject of the investigation, 38 year old Nino Alonzo Franklin drove up to the home and spotted the unmarked squad car.
Franklin then allegedly fled the scene, ramming an occupied unmarked squad car and driving through a playground across the street.
Several witnesses called 911 saying that the car crashed near 57th Avenue West and Medina Street. Officers located and arrested Franklin a short distance away.
Once authorities executed a search warrant on the residence, they found 13.2 grams of heroin, scales, and packing along with other evidence of drug sales. Authorities say they also found firearms along with several EBT cards that Franklin had allegedly been taking in trade for heroin.
Police say that during an interview with Franklin, he admitted to selling heroin to a person who had to be hospitalized due to a heroin overdose last month.
Franklin was transported to the Saint Louis County Jail and has been formally charged with 1st Degree Possession with a Controlled Substance with Intent to Sell and 2 counts of Possession of a Firearm by a Felon.
Franklin has previous convictions including 3rd Degree Burglary, 5th Degree Felony Possession of a Controlled Substance and 5th Degree Domestic Assault among other convictions.
