Duluth Receives Grant to Assist Dislocated Georgia Pacific Workers

Duluth, MN (NNCnow.com) The City of Duluth has been awarded by the State of Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development a grant totaling $285,000 in the effort to help displaced workers of Georgia Pacific.

The DEED grant will help serve up to 80 of the 141 workers that loss thier jobs when Georgia Pacific closed it's doors earlier in the Fall.

Specifically the money will be used for those who are both skiilled and experience but are to young for retirement and also will help with additional training to put the individuals back into the workforce.

The grant is effective starting today and will run through the end of 2013 with the option of extending it if needed.

Any former Georgia Pacific workers that are interested can contact the Workforce Development Center in Duluth, or visit the Office located in the Duluth Athletic Club Building.
