Denali National Park, AK (NNCNOW.com) - The Grand Marais man attempting to solo climb Mount McKinley has ended his endeavor.

According to an onlinejournal, Lonnie Dupre announced Sunday that after 19 days he would be ending his third attempt to climb North America's tallest mountain.

Dupre was hoping to make the final climb to the mountain's summit Sunday, but rough weather conditions made his attempt up the mountain a life or death situation.

Dupre is currently making his way back down the mountain.

Had he accomplished this feat, Dupre would have been the first person to summit Mount McKinley alone in the month of January.

Dupre says he doesn't consider his attempt a failure, as he conducted research throughout the climb for a project on climate change.
