Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com)--- As a precaution for patients and employees, the Essentia Health-Duluth Clinic First Street will continue to be closed on Thursday.
A strong odor at the building led to an evacuation of all patients and staff on Tuesday. After several patients complained that the odor was making them nauseous, the Duluth Fire Department investigated and ordered a partial evacuation of the first and second floors.
After using gas monitors to evaluate the fumes they found no abnormal levels and people were allowed back in.
Since then more people, including patients and employees, have complained of nausea, headaches, dizziness and feeling faint.
In response Essentia sent all patients and employees home while an air quality company attempts to detect the source of the odor.
Extensive air test quality testing has not yet revealed the source of the strong odor present in the building.
Around 85% of patient appointments that are scheduled in the First Street Building for Thursday will take place at other Essentia Health locations in downtown Duluth and neighborhood clinic sites. Patients will be notified by phone of the new appointment location, of if their appointment will be cancelled and rescheduled for a later date.
The Duluth Fire Department and Haz-Cat team spent several hours in the the building Tuesday conducting extensive testing and found nothing of concern. The results of additional air quality tests that were sent to New York are expected by Thursday morning.
