Fargo, ND (Northland's NewsCenter) - Preparations are underway to prevent flooding in the western part of Minnesota and North Dakota along the Red River.

Around 100 volunteers from Essentia Health made the trip to the Fargo area Sunday, joining in the effort there to fill thousands of sandbags ahead of the expected flooding.

Last year, the Red River reached a crest of 19 feet over the flood stage, costing the Fargo Moorhead area tens of thousands of dollars in Damage.
