Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) - The Duluth Steam Plant is facing a lawsuit from a Georgia couple that says their two-year-old son was severely burned by a manhole cover when they visited Canal Park last summer.

The complaint filed in Saint Louis County District Court states that on August 26, 2011, Megan and Troy Brown stopped to take a photograph with their son at the intersection of Lake Avenue South and Railroad Street, when the two year old fell, burning his leg on the metal cover over the manhole.

The complaint states that he required treatment at a burn center for several months.

The complaint alleges negligence on the part of the Duluth Steam Plant cooperative which resulted in the boy's injury.

The couple is seeking more than $50,000 in damages.

A trial date has been set for January 7th.
