South Range, WI (NNCNOW.com)--- A fire completely destroyed a home south of Superior on Tuesday.

Firefighters responded to a home on Highway V in the Town of Oakland around 10:45 Tuesday morning for a house engulfed in flames, and remained on scene for nearly seven hours.

Three people were in the home when the blaze started but were able to escape unharmed.

The American Red Cross has stepped in to help the family.

Fire crews say the fire started in the bathroom but because of how badly burned the home is, they will probably never determine a cause.

The house has been deemed a total loss.

"It's just totally gone. It was pretty much an encapsulated home and just really hard to get at. All the living areas are encapsulated in that place," said Randy Martin, Town of Oakland Fire Chief.

Firefighters were able to rescue a cat from the rubble and gave it oxygen before the owner took it to an animal hospital. The cat is expected to survive.
