(NNCNOW.com) -- Former State Representative Tom Rukavina cut his retirement stint short to go work for newly elected U.S. Representative Rick Nolan.

According to our partners at the Duluth News Tribune, Rukavina will be a paid staffer, a "district liason" who will focus on mining, timber, tourism and other Iron Range issues.

Steve Johnson, Nolan's communications director in Washington told the News Tribune Monday morning that it is not clear if Nolan will open a formal Iron Range office in addition to offices already open in Duluth and Brainerd.

More details on Rukavina's position are expected to be released later this week.

Rukavina announced in May he wouldn't seek re-election after serving 26 years in the Minnesota House.
