Madison, WI (Northland's NewsCenter) --- As millions along the east coast continue to pick up their lives in the wake of Superstorm Sandy, Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker is upping the relief response from his state.

Governor Walker will increase trucking weight limits as needed for companies sending relief assistance materials to aid those on the east coast.

Wisconsin businesses and trucking companies sending requested hurricane relief goods and equipment, such as generators, should work with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation to ensure appropriate oversize-overweight permits are issued quickly.

“It is heart wrenching to see the destruction caused by Hurricane Sandy,” said Governor Scott Walker. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims as they recover from this devastating storm, and we are proud of Wisconsinites and Wisconsin companies stepping up to help out their fellow Americans during this time of need.”

Governor Walker praised Wisconsin utility and telecom companies for deploying about 700 technicians and support staff to areas hit hardest by the storm.

However, relief assistance is still in high demand across impacted states. If you would like to help out the victims of Hurricane Sandy, you can log onto the American Red Cross's website or the Salvation Army's website.
