Hearing set for eight Wisconsinites vs. WI DNR

August 19, 2014 Updated Aug 20, 2014 at 10:43 AM CDT

Iron County, WI (NNCNOW.com) --- Eight concerned citizens are suing the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) over Gogebic Taconite's bulk sampling activities.

The suit was filed in Iron County Circuit Court in March, and residents believe the DNR did not follow the law when they waived the stormwater permitting process for Gogebic Taconite's bulk sampling activities.

The DNR filed its reply brief Tuesday, saying they expect their decision to be upheld by the court.

Gogebic Taconite filed its reply brief as an intervener party Tuesday as well, and they are in opposition to this petition for review, asking that the court deny the release requested by the petitioners and dismiss the petition.

Any rebuttal brief will be due Sept. 12, and a hearing is scheduled for Sept. 29.
