Highway 61, Scenic 61 Construction Pushed Back to April 8

Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Detours along Highway 61 and Scenic 61 will now start April 8 as the city works to extend the Lakewalk.

The Duluth Lakewalk expansion will include a pedestrian tunnel will allow users to cross Highway 61 safely.

As part of Phase 5 of the Lakewalk East Extension, the City of Duluth be closing Congdon Boulevard north of 61st Avenue East.

Highway 61 and Scenic 61 traffic will be detoured to East Superior Street and 60th Avenue East. A temporary traffic signal will be be installed in that area as well.

Motorists are advised that there will be heavy traffic congestion and delays due to the closure. The city is urging drivers to take alternate routes around the construction.

Work on the pedestrian tunnel is expected to be completed by June 19.
