Fire crews battled flames MONDAY morning at a home in Eveleth.

People in the 44–hundred block of Woodlawn Circle in Eveleth awoke around 5:30 Monday morning to smells of burning and the sounds of a family fleeing their home.

The road leading into the neighborhood was blocked as five fire departments responded to the early morning blaze. The fire started near the front door and quickly climbed to the upper levels.

Firefighters were able to contain the blaze to the house, which suffered extensive damage, while the near–by garage remained untouched. The homeowners were able to escape the burning house with their two young children. While the family was safe it was a frightening morning.

The cause of the fire remains undetermined and there is no word yet as to the amount of loss.
